Years of Experience
American Generator Solutions
John Gemmer founded Gemmer Electric in 2005 as an electrical contractor. In 2019 a distributor talked us into installing our first standby generator. They are now the majority of our work, which is why American Generator Solutions carries its own name: most people do not realize electrical contractors install generators.

The Owner
Does Your Quote
We are a four-person family business in Mishawaka. John has been an electrician for 31 years and a fireman for 20, and he still runs the assessments himself. The same faces come back for your annual service.

III
Financing
Financing options for qualified homeowners
A standby generator is an investment in the house, and most people would rather spread the cost than pay for the whole project on day one. We work with two lenders who finance home improvement work, so qualified homeowners can pick a term and a monthly payment that fits the budget.
There are promotional deferred-interest offers, fixed-rate installment loans, and longer terms that keep the monthly payment as low as possible. We will walk you through which one makes sense for your project.
Financing is subject to credit approval. Rates and terms vary by lender and by borrower qualifications.

Service Area
About ninety minutes from the Mishawaka shop
We cover St. Joseph, Elkhart, Marshall, Kosciusko, LaPorte, Starke and Fulton counties in Indiana, plus southwest Michigan. Northern Indiana gets the weather that takes power down: straight-line winds, ice, and the storms that left St. Joseph County with more outages than any other county in the state in April 2025.
If your town is not on this list, it is worth a call. We travel about ninety minutes from the shop.

Installed a Kohler Home Generator 6/2022 and it took a year of back order to get it!!! John's crew was very professional and thorough in the installation. 5 days later, we lost total power for 8 hours and our home generator took over with no hesitation!!! Since then we have lost power and continue being warm or cool with AC or furnace all with the rest of the home power!!! Very happy!!!
Gemmer Electric, Inc installed a 50 AMP Generator plug for me and did an excellent job at the install. The owner came out and quoted me for the job. The price was fair, and the owner realized he should have charged me $100.00 more once the install began; however, the owner told me the original price he gave me was firm, and he wasn't charging me the extra $100 due to his pricing mistake. Gemmer Electric, Inc I would recommend to everyone!
Installed this spring. Excellent service and installation. Power has gone out twice since, unit works perfectly. Highly recommend Gremmer!

FAQ
The ones that come up on almost every visit
Yes. We schedule a visit of about half an hour. We walk through what you want to keep running during an outage, list your major appliances, inspect your electrical panel, and talk through where the generator will sit on your property. You get a written quote by email after the visit, and we follow up the next day to answer anything that came up.
A home generator plus installation typically starts at around $8,000. The total varies with your power needs and what the installation involves. When you are comparing standby generators, your checklist should cover generator size, cost, permits and installation - and we handle those details for you.
It depends on what you want running when the power goes out. During the in-home visit we list your major appliances and inspect your panel, then size the unit to match. Backing up your whole home and backing up essential circuits only are different sizes at different prices, and we will show you both so you can choose.
Installations are currently running six to twelve weeks out from a signed contract. Demand moves with the weather, so we give you the current timeline when we quote rather than a stock answer.
Yes. We partner with EnergyPlus through the National Energy Improvement Fund, so a standby generator does not have to wait for the whole cost up front. You can check whether you prequalify in a few seconds, and doing so does not affect your credit score.
